Motherhood Reflections: Ebb & Flow
Yesterday was one of those days where I got so much done.
Checked things off my to-do list
Showed up for my clients
Organized my thoughts for the week
Even managed to drink all my water (small wins, OK?).
But even with all that productivity… I ended the day with this weird, empty kind of mom guilt.
It wasn’t anything dramatic — Jah was safe, fed, happy — but I just didn’t feel as present as I wanted to be. It felt like I had shown up everywhere except for where I wanted to most: beside my kid.
The guilty thoughts started to echo in my head as I closed my laptop for the night. And then I stopped the guilt train to remind myself of this:
That tomorrow is a new day. A new chance to show up differently. To lean more into mothering, teaching, and just being present, even if it’s just for a moment at a time.
I made a promise to myself a while ago to stop chasing perfect balance. I won’t keep beating myself up for not achieving something that doesn’t really exist. Because the truth is, especially in this world, we were never meant to “do it all” on our own. Society was never built for women, especially moms, to have thriving businesses, peaceful homes, perfect routines, and still make it to bedtime stories without feeling like something got missed. It’s just not realistic.
But I’m learning to lean into the flow.
The ebb and flow of life where some days feel perfectly aligned and others feel a little lopsided.
And that’s okay.
Because I know what kind of life I’m building. For me and for my kids. And what a blessing it is that my son gets to witness his mom being dedicated, disciplined, and deeply in love with her dreams. He gets to see the real-time sacrifice, the real-life pivots, the honest emotions.
That’s powerful in its own right.
So no, I will not walk away from my days with failure stamped on my forehead anymore. I just look toward the next one; with grace, hope, and the quiet knowing that I get to try again. One foot in front of the other. One step at a time.
